Last week, Instagram launched a brand new feature called “Checkout” allowing users to purchase products, track delivery and receive shipping notifications directly through the app.
According to the official press release you will be able to pay via Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover or PayPal and all your card information will be saved securely just like on Amazon.
What inspired the feature
According to Instagram more than 130 million users tap the product tags in the shopping posts every month. This has inspired the social media platform to develop the new “Checkout on Instagram” feature.
Initially, this feature will only be available for users in the USA with 20 brands available to “shop” including Nike, Burberry, Michael Kors and two Kardashian-Jenner brands – Kylie Cosmetics and KKW Beauty with more brands coming soon.
A bold move
Instagram will make money from this new checkout option by taking a cut from each sale, however, at this stage refused to state how much.
