How to Get People to Watch Your YouTube Videos: 7 Ways to Increase Traffic

There are more than 500 hours of YouTube video uploaded every minute and that amount increases all the time.

So with that much competition just being uploaded at the same time as yours, how do you stand out from the billions of hours of content viewers have to choose from?

Check out these effective tips on how to get people to watch your youtube videos.

TAG You’re It

One of the best ways to drive traffic to your channel and your individual videos is by making sure you tag them properly and consistently.

Tags are important for internet users and for search engines because that’s how they know your video is what they want to see. When a user searches for a video related to any topic they put keywords into the search field and then receive a list of related results.

The search engine uses an algorithm of hundreds of factors to decide what results to produce when a search is done. It ranks each related video or webpage partly on what the tags and titles associated with it.

Search engine optimisation is more than just tags but they are a vital part of getting more visitors to your site and ranking higher in search engine results. Whether it’s the Youtube search feature or Google search. Each provides a list of video results for each search performed.

Be a Social Butterfly

You want more than a one-night stand with your viewers, you want a relationship that lasts forever. In order for that to happen you need to be a social butterfly and engage with those who do come to your channel.

But you don’t have to wait for them to find you before you start turning on the charm. Go out and mingle on social media sites. Promote your videos in tweets, status updates, and posts. Create a blog that cross promotes and even embeds your videos. Give yourself as much exposure as possible in communities where people who will like your stuff will be.

If your videos are about cooking and recipes and kitchen product reviews then you’ll want to get involved in like minded communities online. You could even approach various magazines, blogs, and websites about posting a guest blog post on their site and using your YouTube videos as part of the post.

Each time you do this you are inviting their readers to subscribe to your channel.

Awesome Featured Video

You’re going to want to put your best foot forward and show people who are exploring your channel the best material you have right off the bat. This will hook them into sticking around to check out more.

Pick out a video that epitomises you. What your channel is about whether it’s a kooky introduction video with killer special effects, your best cover song on the ukulele or a recipe how-to video that makes something look so easy and delicious viewers are salivating by the end of it.

This is your chance to show them why they should subscribe to your channel and take the time to watch your material.

After you win them over, they’re more likely to accept your occasional mess-up or bad day. If you don’t win them over first, they’ll find something they do like, never to return.

You want to make your featured video interesting, unique and intriguing enough that people either watch because they love it or watch because they can’t believe it and want to see how it turns out.

Not every video is going to win every person over but you want to have enough consistency in posting media for subscribers to see that they don’t get bored and forget you ever existed.

The Right Title and Description

Before you can dazzle viewers with your video you need them to click play, so you need a title and description for your video that will entice them to want to check it out.

You also want titles and descriptions that are related to what the video is about and will make it easy for people to find. Put some thought into it though. You may want to research what words are being searched the most in your niche and include some video titles and descriptions on those keywords.

While they need to be commonly used keywords so you are found by searchers, you also need to be unique enough that you stand out from the other hundreds of thousands of results that also came back for them to choose from.

It’s good to include as much relevant information as possible, in the most interesting way possible so that search engines rank you at the top for being relevant and searchers click for being interesting.

Give Subscribers More to Love

Subscribers tend to like playlists to just click on and be able to binge-watch rather than have to search each of the videos individually.

You’ll want to give subscribers more to enjoy by posting videos regularly and offering exclusive content or a little something special for their support. You may give them an advance viewing of your latest song or a chance to win your latest product.

Everyone loves to feel appreciated and everyone loves to feel like a winner. So many sure you let viewers know you are glad they are there and offer them a reason to continue to be there.

The more consistent you are about posting content, the more your subscribers will come to expect it and feel a relationship is forming. Rather than them just stumbling on a new video you’ve posted they start to anticipate and look forward to the next one on it’s expected release date.
